 3.1 Describe career opportunities in early childhood care and education. 3.2 Explore opportunities for employment and entrepreneurial endeavors. Examine a variety of early childhood care and education settings. 3.3 Review the CDA Resource file requirements and begin assembly of a portfolio for this pathway.

Lesson Activities:
Introduce content/skills of the day
(Group work, teacher lecture, lab, math problems, writing, assessment, etc.)

2. CDA Web Search handout.
-using the CDA website, they will answer questions on the provided worksheet on how it works and applies to educators. 
1. Direct Instruction: Employability Skills Presentation
              Students will have guided notes where they are only responsible for writing down a few words out of each slide that way they can easily keep up with the notes while paying attention.


 2. Unpack the standard:
ET-ECE-4
Identify the role of professionalism in early childhood care and guidance

Students will watch the 2nd video titled “Overview of Ethical Conduct” to see the NAEYC perspective on professional ethics.  Students will learn Code of Ethics Vocabulary through Quizlet link.  Class will use the same NAEYC link to watch the fifth and sixth video: Using the Code: Scenario 1- Naptime and Scenario 2- 2 didactic large group instruction.  When the situation is presented teacher should pause the video and get students’ initial thoughts before continuing to the end.  Students will split into 2 groups to complete the Professional Ethics Case Study.  Students can use the NAEYC Code for guidance in figuring out what they might do if faced with each situation. 
1. Teacher will present “Dress for Success” PowerPoint to show the difference between different types of attire for the workplace.  Using materials provided in class, students should create a creature that has least 8 characteristics of a teacher.  Students should be creative, make sure characteristics are visible, and have a written explanation about each representation. 

2.Current Issues in Education Essay: Through this essay students will be determining issues that are currently affecting education. On the sheet, there is a list of topics to choose from.

Careers Unit Test

Bright from the Start” has programs that significantly impact early educational needs.  Students will go to the website provided to complete the DECAL Web search worksheet to find out more about the organization.
