Chapter 8 Preparing for Children/Topic 8-1 Deciding about Parenting

 Warm Up: Two Minute Talks: students will share with partner by brainstorming everything they already know (prior knowledge) about "being a parent". Groups will share responses & Ask who wants to work 24 hours/365 days without pay?
Instructional Plan: 1. Discuss First Word activity "Parenting"
2. Complete and discuss Pros & Cons of Parenting worksheet (SAGp.53)
3. Introduce chapter. Read objectives and topic terms
4. Discussion ? textbook p.210 Do you agree that couples should try to learn more about children before becoming parents, or do most people already know enough? Class responses
5. Student(s) will read introduction paragraphs.
6. Cloze/Whole group reading: Goal of Parening p.210
7. [ER TRGp. 219] Basic skill worksheet: Teaching Children Personal Priorities, students will work in groups of 3 to identify the personal priorities they think children should be taught......answers will be shared

Closing Summarizer: List one thing that surprised me about the challenges of parenting...
