Chapter 7 Family Challenges
Topic 7-1 Building Functional Families
Warm Up:


Instructional Plan: 1. Student will read objectives and introductory paragraph p. 184

2. Cloze (Whole group) reading p.184 -187 Making and keeping families strong..Notes with 7 point graphic organizer3. Reinforce Assignment: [TRG] p. 195~ Teen Issues and Parent Issues: Divide the whiteboard in half at the top of one side write Teen Issues, other side Parent Issues. Ask students to list issues they feel their parents don't understand about them. Then students will list issues they don't understand about their parents. Class discussion on what they think is the reason behind the apparent lack of mutual understanding.
4. Enrich Activity: [TRG p.197]: Giving a Gift of Appreciation. This activity guides students to write words of appreciation to give to a family member. After composing the words of appreciation students will create a greeting card and place the word of appreciation inside. Have students give their cards to the people for whom they composed. Student volunteers can share.

4th block (behind due to Pep Rally)Warm Up: Which stage in the family life cycle do you think you would be the most exciting stage for parents?

Chapter 6 Understanding Families
Instructional Plan: 1. Review Chapter 6 notes
2. Shoulder Partner assignment: (RF) worksheet Changing Lifestyles, Activity D, SAG: students will identify the lifestyle or family structure that is being described in given situations
3. Class Activity: students will draw their future family life cycle. Predict and indicate at what age (or if) they will enter each of the stages [TE pg.181]
4. Independent Reading~Choices Magazine Student will choose between articles : A Present in the Past or My mom's always there for me. They will the read the article and complete the magazine report form: identify the purpose, summarize their reading and give opinion of the article.
