4.2 Analyze the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, Dietary Recommended Intake, and MyPlate.



Opening Warm-up AND/OR Activator (highlight one):  Bellwork: Diet. Students will read the prompt and complete the student activity.

Work Session:  1. Select students will read Water Article Magazine Report Form.
2. Teacher will introduce Chapter 8 Dietary Guidelines (Key Concept and Main Idea)
3. Students will complete Chapter 8 Graphic Organizer: List the nine topics related to the DGA
4. Students will complete Chapter 8 Academic /Content Vocabulary and Worksheet p. 57

Work Session:  1. Bell ringer (TM95) Select students will comprise a list of  consequences of poor activity and food choices on the the board.
Teacher will explain the importance of the DGA.
2. Chapter 8 Worksheet: p.56 Study Skills
3. Chapter 9 MyPyramid (MyPlate)…Graphic Organizer- Students will list  two favorite foods according to the five food groups.
4. Students will watch DVD: What’s on MyPlate/video worksheet 1-12

2. Chapter 9 MyPyramid and you (MyPlate) worksheet p. 63/65
3. Chapter 9 MyPyramid and you Discussion question 1-6

Closing/Summarizer:   Exit Slips with various questions.
