Good Day South Cobb Supporters,
You may have recently learned that South Cobb
High School was one of six high schools in the district that reported double
digit gains in SAT performance. Our percentage points rose nearly
32%! It is our goal to continue this trend by ensuring our students
are adequately prepared for the administration of this high stakes examination.
Please note: PSATs will be administered at South Cobb High School on October
19th from 8:30 -1:30p.m. Information about PSATs are listed
below. We thank you for your support and attention to this matter.
What
is PSAT-
PSAT-
is a Preliminary
SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). It is
a standardized assessment administered by the College Board and cosponsored by
the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) in the United States.
Approximately 3.5 million students take the PSAT/NMSQT each year.
Who takes the PSAT?
All SCHS 10th
graders will take the PSATs for free, in preparation for the
Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT).
Who also takes the PSAT? 11th graders
may elect to pay for the PSAT. Juniors may sign up in the magnet building
with Ms. Coaxum-Young or with their counselor. The cost for the
assessment is $15.00. In addition, select 9th grade repeaters (9R) may
also qualify for a free PSAT (if they will transition to a junior at the end of
the 2016/17 school year). Ms. Coaxum-Young will send specific information
to those affected students.
